Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian education system is a national policy that covers qualifications from the tertiary education sector (higher education and vocational education and training) in addition to the school-leaving certificate; the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education. This is known as the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

The AQF has 10 levels and links school, vocational and university education qualifications into one national system. This allows you to move easily from one level of study to the next, and from one institution to another, as long as you satisfy student visa requirements. It allows for choice and flexibility in career planning. All qualifications in the AQF help prepare you for both further study and your working life.

Our institutions are linked across the country and across the world, which makes it easy to move throughout the education system between courses or institutions and formal agreement and recognition frameworks mean every step of the path will contribute to your future no matter what your study or career goals.

Pathways

Multiple study pathways and exit points exist between secondary school, TAFE and university. Each stage of study brings its own qualification and can be the completion of your studies, or it can provide a pathway onto the next stage.

Your current year and skill level will determine what course level or institution you are eligible to apply for. Where you finish will depend on the career outcomes you’re hoping to achieve.

    Marcus Oldham College

Studying the Diploma of Equine Management at Marcus Oldham has been an amazing opportunity for me in helping to achieve my future goals. This year has already opened many doors into a world known to be difficult to establish yourself in.

With my ultimate goal to import and breed quality Portuguese Lusitano horses in Australia, Marcus is helping me understand the values of creating a strong business plan as well as providing me with all the knowledge I could hope to gain about the equine industry, and more. Choosing to become a student at Marcus has been one of the best decisions of my life so far. Marcus Oldham is helping to make my dreams a reality.

    The Gordon Institute of TAFE

I choose to study at The Gordon after a few recommendations. Studying the Diploma of Building and Construction, and the Diploma of Building Surveyor was a hard journey because I had to manage my time between the two courses, a part-time job and my lovely family. Now having finished and received my marks, the results are better than I could imagine.

The courses were well prepared and all the teachers ready to give the support students needed. The two years adequately prepared me for any work in the construction industry.

My time at The Gordon enabled me to further develop interpersonal and leadership skills, which has helped me in many aspects of my life. I feel very lucky to have been able to form some very close friendships through the course. Everyone had different skills and experiences to contribute, which was a great benefit. I feel grateful.

    Marcus Oldham College

Del Tuanui from Chatham Islands in the south Pacific Ocean and Gigi Cardwell from Mitta Mitta, Victoria both studied Agribusiness at Marcus Oldham. During their time at Marcus they conceived their idea of creating a business that capitalised on the clean, fresh and highly prized produce of the Chatham Islands. They established links to high end restaurants and food outlets in Sydney and Brisbane and are providing a high quality supply of Chatham Island food directly into those outlets and have been able to raise the profile of the wonderful produce from the Chatham Islands at the same time.

    Marcus Oldham College

The opportunity to study abroad was too difficult to resist when I was offered a place at Marcus Oldham College to study Horse Business Management. Horses have been my greatest interest since I was young.

Studying at Marcus Oldham has provided an unforgettable educational experience for me to study and stay in a foreign culture. Australia’s culture is a totally new experience for me as I have grown up and live in an Asian country.

I will always remember and appreciate all the assistance, guidance, care and warmth from the staff at Marcus Oldham. As an international student, I felt they were attentive to the welfare of a foreign student and always willing to go the extra mile. The experience at Marcus Oldham has also compelled me to be highly independent, especially when it involved looking after a horse that I leased from the College, going to equestrian competitions and finding and arranging practical work placements.

While studying abroad, I enjoyed the opportunity to discover a totally different culture, meeting local and other international students as well as working on horse properties in Australia and New Zealand.

After completing studies at Marcus Oldham, I worked in the Equestrian Centre at Penang Turf Club as an Administrative Executive and teaching basic riding lessons to beginners (after completing the introductory riding instructor’s course). Currently, I am the Racing Officer (Head of Department) at Penang Turf Club.

If you are thinking of studying abroad, take the opportunity when you have the chance. The experience of studying abroad is absolutely remarkable. I will forever cherish the wonderful memories attained at Marcus Oldham.
