Avalon College offers small classes so that teachers can focus on the individual needs of students. The average maximum number of students in the four morning classes is 12 students. In the integrated studies program in the afternoon classes there is an average maximum of 18 students, giving students the opportunity to use their skills in a larger classroom environment. Our classrooms are arranged so that students are encouraged to be actively involved in the class. Teachers can move around the class and check on progress as the students are working on their given tasks.
The teaching staff at Avalon College are experienced and dedicated professionals. They are all appropriately qualified and most have taught in Australian primary and secondary schools. Our teachers know and understand what our students need in order to be well prepared for success in an Australian school.
At Avalon College we provide:
- An English speaking environment
- Small classes catering to all levels of English
- Full boarding
- Afterschool and weekend activities program
- Safe and caring environment
Avalon College is a unique English language school providing the very best care and educational programs for young international students. All students attending Avalon College live in our boarding facilities so they can experience and benefit fully from all aspects of our programs. We accept students from 10 to 17 years of age.
Avalon College combines first class English language and school preparation programs with full boarding care for primary and secondary students.
At Avalon College, students will be accommodated in a nurturing and secure environment, educated within a specialised curriculum framework and integrated with Australian school culture. Students will then graduate with the opportunity to enter Australia's best schools.
There's simply no better place for student’s successful future to begin.
Before coming to Geelong, I wished I knew some good places; like restaurants, parks and the cinemas - because I can go to these places to have fun during the weekends. Secondly, I wish that I knew the beautiful buildings I can take photos of.
Furthermore, I need to adjust to life and study in Australia. I should change my daily timetable, I should sleep earlier than before, and I should do more exercises to keep healthy.
The most important is about study. I should pay more attention on how to study effectively and I should improve on my English skill since that was the essential thing in a foreign country, and I should make friends with local people and get more information about the Australian culture.
Last but not least, this is a tip for newly arrived international students - you should try to learn the Australian culture to get along with local people.

Letter of Thanks from Sophy's mother
Dear Mr. Hoban and Ms. Kay,
Thank you so much for your e-mail.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you and all Sophy's teacher for being an absolutely amazing mentors and making such a positive impact on my daughter the last 3 months. With the wonderful studying and living environment the Avalon College offers, I do not think that Sophy would have made such progress and entered PLC without you.
Sophy has been excited and very happy for the last three months as well as the first three months which she left home, studying and living in Avalon College. She grows so much not only in the academic improvement; but also she is much more confident and independent. As parents, we truly believe that you offers such a supportive community focused on giving each oversea student the best education possible and your leadership provided Sophy with just that. What a positive difference your school have made in Sophy, and her future.
With you recommendation, I hope Sophy can have a good start for her Year 10 in PLC this July. I would like to thank you and all other nice teachers for your kind help and dedication to my daughter.
Many thanks and best regards,
LU, Shifan (Sophy)

Hi everyone. Today is my last day to study in Avalon College and it very sad to say goodbye to all of you. I can't even begin to explain how much I am going to miss everyone tomorrow, next week or next year. The first day that I came to Avalon College, I suddenly felt that I want to go back to Thailand as soon as possible. But now I realize that I was wrong. The time here went really fast, but it was very important and meaningful to me. I learnt many new things and got many things from Avalon College. Everything that I learnt from Avalon College is going to help me to survive when I go to Taunton School in Somerset, England.
I want to say thank you to all my teachers for teaching me English. Thank you to all the staff who took care of me during my entire stay. Thank you to Mrs Akila for all the yummy food every day. Thank you to everyone who has my six weeks at Avalon College some of the best moments in my life. I have made so many great friends and have shared some of the best memories that I will never forget.
