Get started and experience Geelong for yourself

Eating Out

For a quick bite, a group celebration or a formal occasion, there's plenty of options.

Geelong has a huge range of places to eat, both in the city and in the surrounding suburbs, precincts and regions. Formal restaurants awarded hats by The Age Good Food Guide, quick and cheerful cafes with better-than-average coffee and loads of venues that take advantage of our position on the coast to offer views, al fresco and an amazing range of local produce.

Enjoy the Local Produce

Hand picked, hand milked, hand made - often by members of the same family, always by people who share a passion for good produce. Gourmet tastes that call Geelong and The Bellarine home include cheese, olives and olive oil, seafood, chocolate, vegetables and fruit. In many cases, you can visit the sites and meet the people behind the produce.

Make sure you like our Facebook page as it is constantly updated with new places, menus, cheap eats and cool places to hang out.

Head to the Beach

Wherever you are in Geelong and The Bellarine, you're never far from saltwater and a seabreeze.

That's the beauty of being a peninsula - there's ocean beaches, surf, dunes and open water on one side. On the other, sheltered bay beaches perfect for paddling, boats and water sports. It's a beautiful coastline with water and urban views, endless sandy beaches and some amazing experiences - above, below and beside the water.

As Victoria's second largest city we have so many shopping options from Westfield in the CBD which has a high concentration of malls with major department stores and chains, as well as a good mix of specialty shops and independent boutiques. Little more than five minutes by car from the CBD you will find bustling shopping precincts in Geelong West, Belmont, Waurn Ponds and East Geelong. There is so much on offer from malls to speciality stores.

Our favourite is the cosmopolitan Pakington Street which connects Geelong West with Newtown and the location of our Think Geelong Secondary Schools. This is a great place to explore and is known by locals as 'Pako'. There are many boutique shops and cafes, international cuisine, bars and so much more.

Events & Festivals

Geelong is renowned for hosting a huge variety of world class events from music and food & wine festivals, concerts, sports and charity events. There are so many activities that we can only show some of the main ones here. To keep informed check out Events Geelong.

What else do you need to make your visit perfect? A day spa? Trip to a gallery? Shopping?

The region is brimming with experiences that can fill any gaps on your itinerary or satisfy that desire to go off the beaten track. There's lots more to discover - Geelong and The Bellarine can offer a wishlist as individual as you are.

Local Parks and Trails

Within the city landscape there is a network of tracks that transports you into the natural environment where you can walk or cycle, jog, run or skate at a pace that lets your mind wander. Or simply to escape with your thoughts, read or study. There are many places to discover.

In the Geelong Botanic Gardens there is a plaque that says the Gardens are a place for: Plants and people, Discovery and learning, Ideas and innovation, Community engagement and pride, Conservation and the environment, Quiet contemplation. Checkout all our great places to do any of the above.

Performing Arts & Culture

Take a tour at GPAC (the Geelong Performing Arts Centre), the Geelong Art Gallery or CourtHouse Arts and learn about local artists and performers, mainstream or otherwise.

You will find visual art including photography, watercolours, drawings, performing arts (contemporary and classical), or even see new up and coming young bands play at some iconic venues like the Yarra Hotel on Yarra Street. Each of these places takes you away from reality, helps you imagine and create and laugh and cry. Soak it up and enjoy!

AFL Footy

You will quickly find out that everyone is passionate about AFL Footy and the Geelong Cats is our local team. Their impressive stadium can be seen from all over Geelong. For a true Australian experience make sure that you go along to one of the home games or travel to the Melbourne Cricket Ground stadium (MCG) in Melbourne for their away games. The 2017 AFL season gets underway in April.
